History and Basic Principles of Reflexology.
Reflexology is an ancient healing art used by Egyptians over
4000 years ago and by the Chinese, combined with acupuncture,
as long ago as the 4th Century B.C. It works in a similar
way to acupuncture - although no needles are used! –
and is based on the principal that a flow of vital energy
travels through the body in distinctive channels or ‘zones’.
How Reflexology works and Its benefits.
Reflexology has grown in popularity since its’ development
and is one of the oldest and safest of the complimentary therapies.
It is a ‘holistic’ therapy that treats the ‘whole’
person i.e. mind and body and not just isolated symptoms –
unlike conventional medicine that has traditionally treated
the mind and body as two separate entities.
Although the treatment is primarily carried out on the feet,
it treats all the body’s systems and ailments of those
systems e.g.
- Digestive problems
- Headaches
- Musculo-Skeletal conditions
- Neurological disorders
- High blood pressure
- Insomnia
- Stress related disorders
- Respiratory conditions
- Menstrual disorders
It can have the effect of:
- Reducing stress by encouraging deep relaxation
- Improve circulation
- Help detoxify the body by encouraging elimination
- Calms, soothes & nurtures
- Re-energizes & balances the body
- Gives receiver feeling of well-being
- Important in preventative healthcare
- It is a pleasant and very relaxing treatment that does
not tickle!
