The new Asbestos Regulations came into force in May 2004 relating to Non-Domestic Buildings, and the information provided here concerns the implementation of the regulations as they relate to the Roofing and Cladding sector within the Building Industry. These Regulations place a duty on all owners, agents and tenants to be aware and record all asbestos containing materials (ACM's) within the structure of the building
There are three types of asbestos fibre:
During manufacture the asbestos fibres are locked into the cement and the surface made cement rich. Handling such products when new have minimal risk. This is not so where such products have weathered over a period of years or require work to be carried out (drilling and cutting). Here there is a likelihood of excessive asbestos fibre release which can cause lung and chest cancer.
Filon Products can offer solutions that will minimise any risk of asbestos fibre exposure. FILON DR can be used for individual sheet and partial roof repair. Where a complete roof repair is required the FILON Over-Roofing System should be used, offering little or no disturbance to the existing roof and no asbestos disposal problems.
There are many aspects to the control of ACM's in the new Asbestos Regulations. Filon Products have produced literature detailing the various needs as they affect the Roofing and Cladding Sector of the Building Industry. This document is available in PDF format which you can view and print. To do this you need Adobe Acrobat running on your computer Filon Asbestos Regulations Brochure (55Kb)
