Great Fryupdale Outdoor Centre is
situated in a quiet picturesque valley in the heart of the North York Moors National Park,
10 miles from Guisborough and 12 miles from Whitby and the coast. The nearest villages of
Danby and Lealholm are about 2 1/2 miles away and both have railway stations. The
Centre is a converted primary school providing hostel-style accommodation for up to 30
people in two main dormitories with 12 beds and 3 smaller bedrooms.
Key Facilities
| The main accommodation building is centrally
heated and has a lounge and small library. The ancillary building comprises the kitchen
and dining room which doubles as a classroom with some teaching materials.
|
Studies and Activities
| There are no teaching staff or transport
facilities at the Centre; visiting groups "do their own thing".
|
| The area is ideal for environmental studies
with clean salmon rivers, meadows, woods and heather moors all within easy walk of the
front door.
|
| We also have access to a local pond and
dipping equipment.
|
| Danby Lodge National Park Visitor Centre is 2
miles away and offers a wide variety of educational services including led walks and
orienteering courses.
|
| Most courses at Great Fryupdale are Junior
Environmental studies, but the quiet, cosy atmosphere is ideal for 'A' level or GCSE extra
study weekends, and as a base from which to do some serious hill walking or teachers
socials.
