ADULT COURSES: General Information

The three Centres are sited to provide the best possible opportunity for the provision of adult development and training courses in the outdoors:

Bewerley Park Centre for Outdoor Education, Yorkshire Dales
East Barnby Centre for Outdoor Education, North York Moors/Yorkshire Coast
Humphrey Head Centre for Outdoor Education, Lake District/Morecambe Bay

The courses listed are aimed mainly at teachers, youth leaders and others who would like to develop their own skills. This can lead to National Awards or LEA Assessments if desired. Most courses include:

Full board and lodgings
Tuition Specialist equipment, if required
Transport whilst at the Centre.
Weekend courses start with an evening meal at 7 p.m. on Friday and finish on Sunday afternoon.
Midweek courses start at 10.30 a.m. unless otherwise specified in course information.
Fees are usually in two categories:
In-county = for North Yorkshire Teachers/Community Education.
Out-county = all other users.

EARLY APPLICATION IS ADVISABLE (normal cut-off date 1 month prior to course)

Some Administrative Points:

Confirmation of acceptance guarantees a place on the course, provided the course runs. Fees will be refunded if a place is not available or the course is cancelled. Application forms should be forwarded, together with fees, to the appropriate Centre.

Fee rates, as stated on the published programme, are likely to be reviewed as from 1^st September each year. The course details will usually contain the fee payable. Cheques for fees should made payable to "North Yorkshire County Council". For any further details or information, please consult the Centres.

Introduction to Hillwalking

MOUNTAIN BIKING
National Mountain Bike Leader (Level 1 & 2)
Guided Mountain Biking on the North York Moors

ORIENTEERING
BOF Instructor (Level 1 & 2)

SAILING
RYA award courses
Sailing for Beginners
Powerboat Instructor

SKIING
Downhill Skiing
Nordic Cross-Country Skiing

If you have a group of 10+ people who would like to organise an adult weekend in any activity, please contact the Centres with some ideas of dates and numbers. We will be happy to put on extra courses on demand if at all possible. Special quotations given.
