Humphrey Head Centre for Outdoor Education is located five
miles south of Lake Windermere on the shores of Morecambe Bay.
The centre is an isolated building which occupies a superb
position overlooking the estuary of the River Kent with its ceaseless tidal changes and
vast population of wading birds. Not far away, to the north, are the fells and lakes of
the Lake District National Park giving boundless opportunity for study and activity.

How to Find Humphrey Head Centre
From Junction 36 on the M6, travel north west on the A590
towards Kendal. DO NOT CONTINUE ON THE ROAD TO KENDAL.. Filter off left heading south west
on the A590 heading for Barrow/Ulverston.
At the first roundabout you meet, leave the A590 on the B5277
heading for Grange over Sands. After passing through Grange, you will pass through
Allithwaite village, past the prominent pub Guide over Sands.
Shortly after the Pheasant Inn on a 90 degree bend, the road
narrows and you will see the left turn for Humphrey head. Narrow road needs care, cross
the railway, bear left at the dodgy 3-way junction, a sharp 90 degree bend and you're
almost there. First gear up the hill!
If you end up on the sands, you have just missed the centre
on the left 500 metres back.
