Chris Blandford BA DipLD MLA FLI
Senior Director/Masterplanner/Landscape Architect
Chris is CBA’s senior director. He has over 35 years experience as a landscape architect and masterplanner.
He has directed many of CBA’s public and private sector major projects in the UK and overseas, including projects in Italy, USA, Kuwait, UAE, India, Oman and Peru.
His planning and design projects have been the recipient of Landscape Institute awards for professional excellence in 1993, 1995, 1997, 2001,2004, 2008, 2010 and 2011.
His early training in the US has been a constant influence on his environmental approach to design, now best expressed in sustainable landscapes. Chris has worked in many different development sectors, including tourism and leisure, regeneration, housing, infrastructure, commercial, and heritage.
Chris is a visionary landscape masterplanner and designer. He remains a very hands-on technical director at CBA with some recent projects including the Wadi Al Swani Resort in Libya, 'River of Life' in India, New Waterfront District in Beirut, Stonehenge New Visitor Centre, Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, and the National Wildlife Conservation Park.
Tom Baigent BSc DipLD CMLI
Senior Associate - Landscape
Tom is a Senior Consultant at CBA with over 12 years of experience. He has a strong track record of creating and regenerating urban spaces in the public realm for both public and private sector clients.
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary design team Tom has been responsible for the delivery of a wide range of complex, high profile landscape design projects from inception to design, through to overseeing the implementation process and successful completion.
Most recently Tom has been managing CBA's work on the environmental improvement to the public realm in Southend Town Centre. The 'Better Southend Project' received a top RTPI Award in 2011.
Mike Wood BLa Dip LA AILA
Principal and Landscape Architect
Mike is a Principal Landscape Architect with CBA and has over 15 years of professional experience in the design of a diverse range of public, mixed use and private projects both in the UK, Australia and overseas.
Mike’s expertise lies in the design and delivery of complex projects, he has particular skills in the management of multidisciplinary teams and has a keen interest and substantial experience in the design of public realm and waterfront projects. Mike believes that innovation for today’s public spaces must be driven by concepts of robustness, flexibility and sustainability such that they can meet all of their aspirations and the needs of the community.
Mike’s enthusiasm, professional approach and ability to develop strong client relationships ensure projects are delivered both on time and on budget. Mike engenders an effective collaboration spirit amongst all key project personnel. The quality of projects he has been responsible for has been recognised by awards from major professional institutions, most recently for The Darwin Waterfront judged The Best Landscape Architecture project in Australia 2012 by the APPA. It was also highly commended in the Leisure Development Australia Category.
Dieter Wellmann BSc BL PrLarch SA
Principal Consultant - Landscape
Dieter is a Principal Consultant with CBA. He has a strong track record of project management and execution of international masterplaning and design projects.
His early training as a zoologist/ecologist has influenced his approach to design. He is a talented and versatile landscape professional who has worked at all scales from masterplanning, detailed design and construction. His key projects have included major leisure resorts, a range of parks and public realm spaces and high quality landscape for commercial developments.
Recently Dieter has worked on major projects in Beirut, India, the UAE and Libya. In the UK he has worked on developing the strategies and details of public realm in major regeneration areas in Kensington and Croydon. He continues to play an important design management role across both the offices.
Dieter is currently working on the Beirut Western Marina and public realm for the New Waterfront District, Beirut and Al Jazirah Village Heritage Masterplan in UAE..
Mark Holland BA DipLA CMLI
Principal Consultant - Landscape
Mark is a hands-on Principal with CBA. He is a Chartered Landscape Architect with 18 years experience and has led and managed multi-disciplinary teams of professionals engaged in the design and creation of a range of high profile public realm and infrastructure projects.
Mark was responsible for the design and implementation of the award winning Thames Jubilee River Landscape Corridor for the Environment Agency and the Greenwich World Heritage Site spaces improvement project.
Recently he has been responsible for the masterplanning and design of public realm projects in the Haringey and Thames Gateway (A13 Corridor) regeneration areas in London. These all include a mix of parks, streetscape, artscape, and environmental improvement of public areas. Mark is an accomplished facilitator of community consultation.
Dominic Watkins BSc MSc
Director and Environmental Planner
Dominic is a CBA Director with over 16 years’ experience as an environmental planner in the fields of strategic planning, development planning and environmental management.
He has directed a number of CBA’s projects in the leisure, tourism, residential, regeneration, heritage and infrastructure development sectors, and his projects have received awards from the Landscape Institute, the Royal Town Planning Institute and the Academy of Urbanism.
Dominic has led and contributed to EIAs for many different types of development projects in a wide range of environmental and planning contexts. As an inter-disciplinary professional, he helps ensure a strong synergistic and iterative interface between planning, EIA and masterplanning/design on projects.
Dominic was responsible for developing the award winning Milton Keynes South Midlands Green Infrastructure Design Guide, and regularly advises clients on opportunities for delivering green infrastructure benefits through the planning and place-making process.
Examples of his projects include the London 2012 Olympics Mountain Bike Venue, Gatwick Airport, Stonehenge Visitor Centre, Kew Gardens Herbarium Extension, the National Wildlife Conservation Park, Woburn Centre for Conservation & Education, Bedford-Milton Keynes Waterway and Chichester Harbour Coastal Defence Works.
Dominic is currently directing CBA’s planning, EIA and design work for the London 2012 Olympics Mountain Bike Venue Legacy Project.
Stephen Kirkpatrick BSc BLD CMLI
Senior Associate - Landscape
Stephen Kirkpatrick is a Senior Associate with CBA and has, over the past 17 years, worked in all areas of landscape architecture, including strategic landscape planning and landscape master planning.
He has over 10 years of international work experience and has worked as a key part of many multi-disciplinary planning and design teams in the UK, Libya, Australia and China.
In the UK he has worked for a range of clients including national governments, large-scale engineering design groups, developers and heritage conservation organisations. Stephen has extensive experience in the assessment of landscape and visual impacts and is a seasoned expert witness; he is well versed in the preparation of Landscape Master Plans, Development Briefs, Planning Frameworks/Guidelines, Design Statements and Environmental Conservation Strategies for a wide range of development types, including residential and mixed use developments, educational campuses, regional parks, golf courses, airports, railways, roads, and power stations.
He has also been responsible for various landscape visioning studies, and the preparation of landscape-related goals, policies and initiatives for new built development proposals.
Bill Wadsworth B.Tec.HND PGDip CEnv MIEEM
Senior Associate - Ecology
Bill is a Senior Associate Ecologist at CBA with over 20 years professional experience as an applied terrestrial ecologist, with particular expertise in protected species surveying and habitat evaluation, restoration, management and creation. These skills have been applied through conservation management initiatives and the delivery of mitigation strategies associated with EIAs for a wide range of development projects within sensitive rural and urban landscapes.
Bill has extensive experience in the design and implementation of biodiversity strategies, species and habitat action plans within both the public and private sector and he has a particular track record in establishing the long-term viability of site-specific conservation management plans for a range of habitat types, as well as publicly accessible green open space. This work has included the delivery of major consultation exercises to ascribe quantitative and qualitative values to public aspirations for biodiversity initiatives within local communities.
Bill regularly contributes to, and is involved with, biodiversity-led landscape design commissions, with a particular interest in urban ecology and green roof design. A key element of Bill’s work is elucidating the role biodiversity plays in underpinning the provision of ecosystems services, particularly within urban and peri-urban contexts.
Bill has extensive experience in partnership working with engineering and construction professionals, regulatory authorities such as Natural England, NGOs including RSPB and Wildlife Trusts and local community groups to develop sensitive approaches to the design, delivery and long-term viability of biodiversity initiatives and projects.
