little red magnets

the pictures inside his head worried him

little red magnets, dangling on strings

yellow metal fishes, shiny in a cardboard box

he bit his lip, and tasted the trickle of blood

not remembering made him angry

he asked the nurse, who laughed and walked away

then he remembered – and began to cry.

playing happily

and never will

you didn't deserve it

the card

little red magnets

cursing softly

that's not living

that's despair

barely touching

the faintest of whispers

so much

all my reasons

that's why she's here

who did that to you

already dead
