Clients are referred to our caseworkers after they
have seen a Generalist Adviser either at Shoreham CAB or
another agency.
Most of our help is aimed at those who are on a very low
income. Two caseworkers are funded by the
Legal
Services Commission. The Bureau has Quality Marks for Specialist
Help in Debt and Welfare Benefits.
Debt
The reasons for getting into debt are various, a broken relationship, loss of a job or an illness. Small changes in people's circumstances can turn credit into debt, and many people try and borrow their way out of a crisis.
Shoreham CAB's debt advisers help clients get personal debts under control and plan for the future. They negotiate with creditors to reschedule, challenge or write off debts, help clients maximise income, identify priority payments and manage their finances better.
Last year our caseworkers helped clients deal with over £1,500,000
of debt.
Welfare Benefits
The Welfare Benefits caseworker advises clients on Benefits they could claim, and helps them if they need to appeal Benefit decisions.
Most cases are concerned with Disability Benefits, Housing Benefit and Income Support.
Many of the benefit rules are complex, some benefits are dependent on others and it is difficult for many people to tackle these issues on their own.
