PACT is a large, diverse organisation, helping to
meet the needs of local people in a direct way.
We also play a wider role in helping to build a
better community for us all.
How does PACT work?
Anyone running a community project faces a
familiar set of problems. Deciding who and what
the project is for is usually not difficult - it
is practical issues such as gaining and securing
funding; dealing with the accounts,
administration and legal matters; recruiting and
managing employees; and addressing publicity
needs (just for starters) which cause the
headaches!
It is precisely to deal with such problems that
the current PACT structure was established. A
central (Core) team of staff and volunteers
provide expertise and support to each PACT
project as required, paid for by contributions
from each project.
The Core Team offers support in:
- Fund-raising
- Administration
- Bookkeeping
- Financial control
- Human Resources
- Legal Matters
- Recruitment
- Employment
- Marketing
- Information Technology
A Project Manager is assigned to each project and
works closely with staff and supporters of the
project to develop the work and ensure that it
remains responsive to its user's needs. Other
specialist staff offer support in areas such as
financial management, information technology,
publicity, administration and so on.

PACT was established in 1978 and now consists of
twenty projects, funded from various sources
including local government, charitable trusts,
individuals, churches and businesses.
The projects spread across East and West Sussex,
each focussing on the needs of a particular group
in a local area. In the past eighteen years we
have raised millions of pounds to help thousands
of people in need. We currently enjoy the support
of hundreds of volunteers, have a turnover of
over £1 million per annum and employ almost 100
people.

Social responsibility
PACT's work reflects the view of many people that
society has a responsibility to all its members
to offer support when it is required. With such a
range of need in the region it is not surprising
that PACT has a diverse portfolio of projects in
different areas of activity.

Equal opportunities
PACT's projects seek to deliver services to all
parts of society - working actively to create
equality of opportunity for all. This common
thread draws together all parts of the
organisation - staff, volunteers, supporters and
funders.
Wherever possible the needs of a particular group
of people are tackled as a whole. Whether by
delivering a set of services itself, or by
participating fully in the community and its
wider provision, every PACT project tries to
avoid developing in isolation. This helps prevent
short-term initiatives, duplication of provision
and competition for increasingly scarce
resources.
