Projects
MICROCON’s research activities will tackle three main research areas: Concepts and Measurement, Research and Knowledge and Policy Linkages and Synthesis. Each of these areas tackle a number of research themes, each of which is addressed by a 'Work Package', which are listed on the left hand side of this page. Each of these Work Packages will be led by one partner institution. Most Work Packages will also have significant cross-Work Package implications in terms of final research outcomes, as well as generating learning processes and synergies across the research themes.
Each Work Package is further divided into research projects, each tackling a more specific set of research questions. There are 28 research projects in MICROCON.
Concepts and Measurement
The outputs under this area will supply the conceptual and empirical framework for the remainder of MICROCON. The Work Packages under this heading run throughout the whole duration of MICROCON, in order to ensure a complete integration of the conceptual and data frameworks across all projects.
Research and Knowledge
This area is the core of the MICROCON’s activities, and drives MICROCON ’s overall aim of creating the foundations for a new European research agenda in the field of conflict analysis. It comprises eight themes, and will develop solid theoretical and empirical underpinnings for the analysis of micro level processes and interactions of conflict, using rigorous methods of analysis.
Policy Linkages and Synthesis
The projects under this area aim to establish bridges between micro level conflict processes and macro level policymaking. It comprises three Work Packages, and particularly looks at policy structures aiming to create sustainable programmes for the prevention of violence and the resolution of existing mass conflicts.
