Lead researcher: Prof. Jeremy Seekings

Jeremy is head of the Social Surveys Unit at the CSSR, and also has a joint appointment as Professor of Political Studies and Sociology. He leads a variety of research projects at CSSR encompassing both quantitative and qualitative research. These include studies of adolescence, race and class, violence, AIDS and poverty, social policy, and politics.

Most of his research concerns South Africa, but he also conducts research in Brazil, the Caribbean, and other parts of Africa.

Researcher: Adam Cooper

Adam studied research psychology, and has worked with young offenders to explore issues around masculinity, violence and gangs. Prior to joining the CSSR he worked for the Human Sciences Research Council, a government parastatal, on a collaborative project with local government setting up crime prevention strategies at community level. His research interests include crime, violence, adolescence and gender.

Adam’s research has focused on South Africa, in particular the Cape Flats, but he has also recently written a book chapter looking at comparative interventions for youth gangs, from an international perspective.

Researcher: Lauren Kahn

Lauren's research interests include adolescence, sexuality, gender, sexual and reproductive health, and violence. She has collaborated on a research project exploring childhood and adolescence in post-apartheid South Africa, with a specific focus on adolescent sexual decision-making, relationships and reproductive and sexual health. She has also collaborated on HIV/AIDS-related research and outreach.

To date, Lauren’s work has focussed on South Africa.
