Concrete Repairs

Concrete repairs are required when steel reinforcement within the concrete is subject to Carbonation and or Chloride attack.

Carbonation

This is when atmospheric carbon dioxide mixes with water to create carbonic acid which disturbs the concrete alkalinity. This carbonation of the concrete penetrates into the protective concrete and eventually causes corrosion of the steel and the eventual breakdown of the concrete structure.

Chloride (Salts) attack

If sufficient chlorides are present it will disrupt the surrounding layer and cause corrosion to occur. These chlorides may have been present during the original construction or have occured due to the surrounding environment.

Archers with their vast experience are able to carryout full and effective repairs followed by protective coatings to ensure that the life of the concrete structure is extended. All this with the minimum disruption to the client.

Hammond Court, Portsmouth. Archers carried out repairs to the Floor Ring Beam.

Bucklersbury House, London. During a five year planned maintenance programme, to minimise disruption, Archers working out of cradles carried out the survey, repairs and applied protective coatings to the window sills and heads.
