Recessed Hydrotherapy Jets

The actual jet nozzles where the water rushes out to give the massage effect are set back from the main surface of the spa. These recesses can be seen on some of our pictures. If a jet is not recessed it can dig into your back while you recline!

Pump Power

There are many ways of expressing the power of spa pumps, the most common method being Hp (horse power). We use the abbreviation ‘Mkt’ for market horse power, it’s the power that most people in our market would recognise the pump as having. It saves long and complex discussions about hydraulic power versus input and output electrical power. On this subject see ‘dual speed pump’.

Dual Speed Pump

There is a practical limit as to the power of pumps in spas. It is possible to install larger and larger pumps but at a certain point the water pushes people out of their spa seat! From years of customer feedback and personal trials we have discovered that a 3.1Hp pump gives a good powerful massage. The outstanding advantage of a dual speed pump is that it can also be run at half speed to give a gentle, soothing soak or at full speed for the massage effect. With dual speed pumps the choice can be made at the press of a button.

Integrated Heater

Our spas have the electric heater built in. There is no need to warm the water separately or worry about when the heater is to be turned on as there is a temperature sensor and automatic thermostatic control. Just set the desired temperature and let the spa look after the rest.

Mini-Miser Circulation Pump

A dedicated circulation pump has many advantages over a traditional system. Please follow this link to find out more about the Circulation System.

Freshwater Ozone

We always recommend using a water sanitizer such as chlorine or bromine in your spa to maintain clear, safe water. An ozone generator is an additional aid in maintaining pure sparkling water. Air is drawn through the ozone generator which converts some of the oxygen (O2) into ozone (O3) which oxidises any bacteria or contaminate that it contacts. The result is fantastic water quality and reduced chemical use as the sanitizer is free to deal with any new contaminate that may enter the spa water. On spas with a dedicated 24 hour circulation pump a steady stream of bubbles can usually be seen entering the spa, this is where the ozone is introduced. For bather comfort on Relax Spas no ozone is added to this stream of bubble when the spa is actually in use, whenever a pump, blower or light button is pushed the ozone generator is turned of for 40 minutes.

Air Blower / Bubbler

An air blower can be thought of as a separate air pump that pushes air bubbles into the spa water to create the traditional spa experience. Sometimes the pumped air can be fed into the water pipes to make up for lesser water pump performance but on Relax Spas the air blower is connected to dedicated injection points, usually on the seats under the thigh position. This gives more choice on how to enjoy the spa. Depending on model Relax Spas have either single or twin speed air blower operation. Single speed uses full power where as twin speed enables the intence air bubbles or the option of a more gentle experience.

Aromatherapy

On spas with an air blower included a canister is often provided where scented beads in a net bag can be added. The air from the blower passes over these beads, picking up the scent, before it is injected into the spa. Various beads are available. Some fragrances can be added directly to spa water but these often adversely effect the water quality, cause foaming or use up the sanitizer (chlorine / bromine).

Heat Retention Cover

A spa without a proper lid / cover will not reach or maintain a useable temperature, it would also suffer from excessive debris in the water. With a Relax Spa the lid is always included and serves several purposes.
Keeps in heat, aids safety by discouraging children and pets from the spa (the lids have clips), keeps out the debris and reduces chemical usage. Look for spa lids that are tapered so they are thickest in the middle, this lets rain water run away rather than forming a puddle.

Underwater Light

Usually located near the entry point to the spa, especially if there are steps, an underwater light makes using the spa at night much safer. Moving water lit from below also has a beautiful ambience that adds to the spa experience. Although its difficult to imagine on the show room floor the underwater lights are actually very bright at night so models that have a duel intensity light where it can be dimmed have a distinct advantage. As standard on Relax Spas two coloured lenses are supplied (usually red and blue) that can be clipped over the light lens to change the mood.

Heat Insulation

Strange though it may seem but in some countries keeping spa water cool is a problem so no insulation is used, cost saving for some localities but not ideal for the UK! With Relax Spas the void between the acrylic shell and the wooden cabinet has either free form insulating spray or bagged foam strategically placed to keep the heat in. We seem to accept in the UK that loft insulation is a good idea and cost effective, the same logic should lead us to insist on well insulated spas.

Digital Control Pad

With Relax Spas we want people to enjoy their spa straight away so the control pads are simplicity themselves. To turn the pump on press the pump button, to increase the speed press it again, to turn it off press the button a final time. Blowers and lights work in the same way. To increase the spa temperature press and hold down the up arrow. Once the basics are mastered there additional settings to enhance the spa operation including programmable purge cycles, reversible display, panel lock and actual programming of the spa configuration. These features vary from model to model, some have one single control pad, some have another panel so there are two points to operate the spa from, it is even possible to upgrade some models to full hand held remote control!

Drain Valve

Each Relax Spa comes with a drain valve either behind the access panel or under the spa skirt. To empty your spa connect your garden hose to the valve using the supplied adaptor, open the valve and let the spa drain. For faster emptying some people use a submersible pump which saves opening any access panel.
