Each year the Trust hosts a ceremony at which our annual awards - Preservationist of the Year, Young Preservationist of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award - as well as project Restoration Award certificates - are presented by our patron, HRH Prince Michael of Kent.
RAF Museum Hendon
The 2009 ceremony took place on 24th June at the RAF Museum Hendon. Hendon Aerodrome was at the heart of civil and military flying in London before and after WW1. A factory and air acceptance facility, it was commandeered in 1922 for the RAF. Subsequently it attracted public attention as home to many air displays in the heyday of "those magnificent men in their flying machines". The 1920s airshows were publicised by a notable series of London Transport posters.
Hendon continued as an RAF station in WW2 but the spread of London's suburbia to engulf the perimeter made it impossible to extend the runway to accept modern jet aircraft. It was relegated to a transport and training facility before closure in 1968, when part of the site was sold for housing. The Museum was opened in 1972 by HRH Queen Elizabeth II and now houses the largest collection of historic aircraft in London.
The Award Winners
Once again HRH Prince Michael accepted the invitation to present the awards, assisted by the Trust's President, Sir William McAlpine.

Restoration Awards
The successful applicants for Restoration Awards during 2008 were also invited to the ceremony to receive certificates from HRH Prince Michael. A reminder of the projects that were considered to merit awards in 2008 can be found here.
President's Award
On this occasion an additional award was presented by Sir William McAlpine as President of the Trust. The President's Award was given to Clive Morris in recognition of a long involvement with the North Norfolk Railway and in particular his initiative and project management seeing through the restoration and return to service of the only surviving example of a GNR 4-car commuter train.
