London Sports Massage Courses
The Southern School of Massage Therapy (SSMT) offer diploma courses for training as a Sports Massage Practitioner (SMP Level 4) in a venue just 45 minutes from the centre of London.
Our sport massage courses are tutored by fully qualified SMPs and chartered physiotherapists and the content of the course has been approved to meet the standard required for membership of the Sports Massage Association (SMA), the professional body in the UK.
The course is also validated by Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Examinations.
The students
Our training courses are aimed at:
- People with no experience who want to become registered sport massage practitioners
- People who are already qualified in other areas of massage and would like to take their understanding and standards of practice to a higher level
- Chartered Physiotherapists who want SMA recognition to work with elite athletes In addition, we offer individual components of the course to health practitioners for Continued Professional Development.
Course Aim
To enable delegates to obtain a recognised diploma in Sports Massage and give them the skills to:
- Provide knowledge and understanding of the theoretical aspects necessary to underpin safe and effective practice. Introduce a variety of soft tissue manipulation methods.
- Develop the practical skills needed to perform effective sports massage in any given situation and present opportunities for problem solving.
- Provide an experience that is valuable, a foundation for more advanced study and a means of personal development.
- Work closely with other healthcare professionals to provide best practice.
About SSMT
The Southern School of Sports Massage is headed up Paul Wills, a Sports Massage Practitioner with 12 years experience running his own practice and is a member of the Sports Massage Association. His business involves working with the general public, elite athletes and other healthcare professionals.
He has been tutoring massage therapists for many years. Paul was a member of the Sports Massage Team at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester and is likely to be involved with the London 2012 Olympics. He has also written an internationally recognised book on massage.
