The
Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005 will replace the Special Waste Regulations
1996.
Hazardous Waste is defined as waste with one or more properties
that are hazardous to health or the environment.
Business Premises producing Hazardous Waste will be required to
register with the Environment Agency. Premises considered to be
low risk such as shops and offices will only need to do this if
they produce more than 200kg per year. Once registered each premises
will be issued with a premises code which will need to be used on
the disposal consignment note.
There are many new waste streams which are now considered to be
Hazardous such as:
Televisions
Computer Monitors
Florescent
Tubes
Lead Acid Batteries
If premises producing hazardous waste are not registered with the
Environment Agency by July 16th 2005 then waste management companies
will not be able to collect any hazardous material until registration
is completed
As with all waste regulation it is the responsibility of the waste
producer to ensure they comply. Elite Environmental Limited is committed
to assisting its customers in achieving compliance and will be happy
to assist with any questions you may have.
