St. Lawrence’s Church

There has been a chapel or church in Ecchinswell for centuries, probably since Saxon times. The original building stood behind the Old Vicarage near the footbridge that crosses the village stream. It was demolished in 1885 and rebuilt on the present site and consecrated on 15 Oct  1886.

The Church is dedicated to St Lawrence, a 3rd-Century martyr in Rome. It was designed by GE Bodley and T Garner, well-known Victorian architects, responsible for other churches and college buildings in Oxford.

But the church is more than an historical building: it exists to enable people to discover and worship God and to bring the message of God's love, reconciliation and peace to a world that desperately needs to hear it. All are welcome to join us on a Sunday morning.

Any enquiries about weddings, funerals, baptisms or any aspect of Church life, please contact the Rector, David Bartholomew 01635 278470.
