Ecchinswell War Memorial
Dear Village Website Readers
2014 will be the centenary of the start of ‘Great War’. It has struck me for some time that the names on the village war memorial are, to a certain extent, anonymous to most passers-by and probably to most village residents.
I would very much like to spend some time researching those names and putting together, where possible, some biographical information to get an impression of what their life would have been like in Ecchinswell, where and when they joined up, what they did in the Forces and where they now lie. These men made the ultimate sacrifice and I think that knowing a bit more about them, than just their name, would, I hope, in some small way honour their contribution and memory in the forthcoming centenary year.
I would be delighted to hear from anyone who has any information on the following:
Frederick John Miles
Frederick Lawrence
Frank Lawrence
Charles William Goddard
Josian Sheppard
George Caleb Cox
Sidney Cenaway
Innes Douglas Boyce
John Cooper
Frank Cooper
David George Oliver
Ernest Hill
Richard James Jenkins
Edward Charles Holmes
Dan Fosbury
Ernest Beauchamp
George Elliott
William Stratton
Leslie Stratton
Gerald Stephen Wickham
John Frederick Henry Appleby
