Tripods

Cats with three legs following a loss of a leg are affectionately known as tripods. Cats can lose a leg for many reasons, but the most common reasons are injury or illness.

VAS tripods have had their leg amputated in an attempt to stop the cancer spreading to other areas of their body.

Owners can be understandably horrified at the prospect of their cat losing a limb. They might think that their cat, especially an older cat, will find life impossible to live without all four limbs and they might be tempted to decide against this surgery.

Of course, all cases need to be looked at individually and what is right for one cat may indeed be wrong for another, but the following links will take you to see a number of cats who have undergone amputation and who are purrfectly happy!

Duncans Story

Please dthink long and hard about where and why your cat is vaccinated. A rear leg vaccination will not stop VAS occurring but, as you can see yourself from these tripod cats, it does give them a second chance of life.

We couldn’t give Bungle this second chance as she was routinely vaccinated in the scruff. Please don’t let the same thing happen to your beloved cat.
