Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)
WHAT IS PAT?
It is a comprehensive visual and mechanical test fro all mains electrical appliances used in the work and home environment.
WHAT DOES PAT ENTAIL?
Appliances, plugs, fuses, flexes and terminal points are all checked and tested. Plug casings are checked for cracks, scorching and correct fuse. The wiring is checked for damage plus correct and secure termination. Then the appliance is subjected to an insulation test, earth bond and continuity, touch leakage and polarity test. Minor repairs can be completed. Failed equipment is disconnected and reported.
THIS SOUNDS VERY DISRUPTIVE
Because appliances have to be disconnected from the mains, testing can be done outside working hours or at weekends to avoid disruption at work.
IS IT EXPENSIVE?
No, there is set item rate, you get an accurate price before work starts. You will receive a full safety check, and a written report which will also contain a risk assessment, and any safety recommendations.
