What's the story in Trowse, Norfolk??

Broadband is helping to bring the village of Trowse in Norfolk together. It is being used to share information and build up community spirit. A Trowse village website has been set up, and the local pub is being used as a free Internet café to allow people without computers to send and receive their e-mails. And classes have been organised to teach even the most elderly residents how to use e-mail.

Villager Martin Kentish, who has entered the Broadband Britain Challenge under the Voluntary/Charity Sector category, says Broadband has helped strengthen the sense of community, share information, and raise the profile of the village internationally.

"It is helping to raise the profile of the various small businesses in the village and for people to learn about each other via online biographies," he says. "It also helps people to be aware of what is happening in the community, along with the gossip, the parish magazine and community noticeboards."Everyone in the village can be set up with a free e-mail account, accessible from anywhere including the pub."

And the benefits??

Broadband has helped strengthen the community, and increase its aspirations on what could be achieved with a little vision and energy. The community spirit benefits everyone although Martin is clear why he is a champion, "I am passionate about making life better for people, and my contribution will be to provide the expertise to help make life better for everyone in my village. I do this not for profit but for the sense of satisfaction of helping others."
