Guernsey
brigade gets red hot deal
Guernsey Fire Brigade
has chosen the Dorgard fire door stay-open device for use in their own
buildings.
Dorgard, manufactured
by Fireco Ltd, is a cost-effective, audio-electronic device. Unlike
Electro-Magnetic Retainers (EMR), Dorgard requires no wiring, and
takes just a few minutes to install. A fire door is held open by simply
depressing Dorgard's rubber stopper, which makes contact with the floor.
The device then listens for a fire alarm. When the alarm sounds, the rubber
stopper retracts, allowing the fire door to swing closed. Dorgard provides
a simple and effective way of holding fire doors open in busy environments
such as nursing homes, hotels, offices and, of course, fire stations.
To encourage fire
safety in the workplace, Fireco has introduced the 'Wedge Pledge' offer.
Install Dorgard and Fireco will purchase your inferior wedge (regardless
of condition) for £5.
Guernsey brigade's
Senior Fire Safety Officer, Nigel Acton, supports the Dorgard 'Wedge Pledge'
offer. He considers Dorgard a safe alternative to wedges, which are a
threat to both life and property. Mr Acton, who has 20 years of service
with the brigade says, "Wedging a fire door open can compromise your
escape in the event of a fire. I think Dorgard is an ideal solution. Dorgard
keeps the door to our busy training room open, affording fire officers
free movement, and allows fresh air circulation as we don't have air-conditioning."
The Guernsey Fire
Brigade serves a population of about 60,000 and is heavily involved in
the community. Local brigade staff support the Benevolent Fund by undertaking
various fund raising efforts throughout the year. The money is used to
support convalescent care and rehabilitation of current and retired brigade
staff. The Fire Safety Department actively promotes public awareness and
fire safety issues to residents, and also distributes free smoke detectors
to citizens over 60 years of age.
Fireco Ltd, is a member
of JFP Group. The product complies with all applicable EC directives,
and has been tested to the recently published BS EN 1155. Dorgard is now
available in 10 standard colours.
