How Dorgard works

Once the unit is fixed to your door, open the fire door to the required position and simply step on the black plunger to depress the rubber ferrule. The ferrule makes contact with the floor, keeping a fire door open in any position. The device then listens for the fire alarm. When the alarm sounds, an integral microphone responds, electronically releasing the rubber stopper, allowing the door to swing closed under the power of the overhead door closer.

Unlike electro-magnetic retainers (EMR), Dorgard requires no wiring as it is battery operated and self contained. Installation is easy, quick and non-disruptive. It is fixed to your door with four screws and takes only 5 minutes to install. Once you have inserted two C-size batteries (supplied), Dorgard is ready for duty.

A LED flashing red light tells you that the unit is operational. In the event of low battery power or battery tampering, Dorgard will automatically release, allowing the door to close. In addition to this, the unit will sound a repeated warning tone and flash the LED reporting the battery failure.

Continuous development of the electronics and extensive use of low power components has resulted in low power consumption. This means the battery life expectancy exceeds 12 months. In very noisy environments, it may be less than 12 months.

There are two methods to release Dorgard, either by lightly kicking the black plunger towards the door or by pushing the door in the open direction. (If the floor plate is in use Dorgard will only release by lightly kicking the black plunger)

Dorgard can automatically release at a pre-determined time each night if the night time release function has been selected. After Dorgard has automatically released the unit will not operate as a hold open device until the following morning, whereby it will rest itself for normal duties.

So if you find the need to hold open your fire doors during your day to day activities and are at present using anything other than a dedicated fire door retainer, you are placing yourself and others at risk. Dorgard is the solution.
