Economic growth has led to very considerable progress in reducing poverty in Asia , but there is no room for complacency. How can this level of economic growth be sustained? And if growth can be sustained in the region as a whole, how can the benefits be extended to marginalised groups and parts of Asia that are lagging behind?
The conference theme will identify risks to growth in Asia and look at ways to tackle future challenges. Potential risks include problems which may strike at a global level, such as an influenza pandemic or a global financial crisis. These challenges will require global solutions as well as regional responses, to mitigate their impact on economic growth and poverty reduction. At a regional level, potential challenges include investing in adequate infrastructure, ensuring financial stability, and meeting energy requirements for growth, while safeguarding the environment.
Examine the key risks that could threaten sustained economic growth in Asia and to identify regional and global strategies to manage these risks
Understand particular regional challenges facing Asia : infrastructure investment; financial regulation; environmental sustainability; and energy
Identify solutions to regional challenges to ensure that economic growth can be sustained and lagging regions can benefit.
