Location
'The Stable' is situated down a quiet no-through country lane one mile from Hailsham, just
above the upper reaches of Pevensey Marsh. This historical old market town was granted
charter rights by Henry 111 in 1252 and has two bustling shopping precincts, a modern
sports complex and leisure pool.
The surrounding area provides numerous attractions for all ages. The South Downs and Weald
afford excellent walks and quaint villages and hamlets offer refreshment in the old inns
and tea-rooms. Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters Country Park grace the chalk coastline
between Eastbourne and Seaford. Brighton, Hastings, the county town of Lewes and a number
of National Trust properties, castles, gardens and stately homes are all within easy
reach.
The Cuckoo Line railway, built in 1849, passed through Hailsham, but was closed in 1965.
It now provides a beautiful scenic track and bridleway called the Cuckoo Trail, running
from Eastbourne to Heathfield.
A regular bus service stops at the top of the lane. From there you can travel to Hailsham,
4 miles to Polegate and 8 miles to Eastbourne. A frequent main line rail service to and
from Victoria Station, London stops at Polgate and Eastbourne. |
