soon as a potential project is considered. Significant
windows will be posted on this front page for easy reference.
October to December
The end of most ecologists busiest period but
there may be a race against the clock for certain issues:
Badgers: the disturbance license close
season applies from 1st of December until the
30th of June. Its a long time to wait if
you have a badger sett holding up your project. If you
think badgers could be an issues act immediately.
Crayfish: October is the last month to carry
out meaningful crayfish surveys before they burrow away
for the winter.
Bats: the principal activity survey season is
over now, though hibernation studies can still be carried
out.
Bat roost potential surveys can still be commissioned;
these may be the only reports you need for planning
or they may recommend emergence surveys during the summer
months.
Wintering Birds: monthly visits from October
are needed through winter until they cross over to breeding
bird studies in March.
