South Downs Nurseries held its first Coffee morning on Friday 13th April to raise much needed funds for St peter & St James Hospice.
Sarah Parsons Retail Manager, " A big thank you to all our customers who supported our Charity Coffee morning, with the generosity of our customers we raised £350.00. A special thank you to Nick Herbert, MP for Arundel and South Downs who came to support the Coffee Morning.
Gill, Head of fundraising for the Hospice " The support for the Coffee Morning was fantastic, All of our Hospice services are free of charge to patients and their loved ones. We receive less than 17% of our funding from the Government and every penny helps.
Dignitaries have been adding their eco hopes to a environmental wish trees at all three Tates of Sussex garden centres.
Hove's MP was joined by Brighton and Hove's mayor and local councillors at Mayberry Garden centre, in Portslade, to make their green wishes public and fix them on a specially installed wooden 'tree', It is one of a network as part of a national campaign to raise awareness of environmental issues organised by manufacturers.
With his wish, Mike Weatherley revealed that he is one of only a few Conservatives who is anti-nuclear, wishing that 'there is no need for nuclear power'. The mayor called for 'less pollution and cleaner air' in her wish.
Jonathan Tate, managing director of Tates of Sussex Garden Centres which runs the Old Shoreham Road site, said he was delighted by the response to the tree. "It is wonderful that so many people care about the planet and the environment we live in."
At Paradise Park, in Newhaven, MP Norman Baker devoted his wish to a subject close to his ministerial portfolio, calling on airlines to take responsibility for the pollution they generate. He wished for 'an international agreement to ensure that aviation pays its environmental price."
At South Downs Nurseries, local MP and policing minister Nick Herbert popped in to kick-start the wishing tree scheme and show his support for environmental issues.
The trees remain in place until the end of the month for general wishes to be added. More details from www.madeaware.org.uk
Pictured is young Evelyn Hollingdale (13) from Hassocks - the winner of the Lindt Bunny Hunt staged at South Downs Nurseries over the holiday weekend. The victorious teenager is with her sister, Lydia, and Sarah Parsons from the South Downs Nursery and Heritage Centre.
Evelyn had to find four bunnies hidden around the garden centre and tourist attractions - their names were Fluffy, Hoppy, Flopsy and Speedy. Over two hundred children took part in this year's Easter Bunny Hunt."They had a fabulous time dashing about hunting down the hidden rabbits", said manger Mark Hillyard. "The event was a great success, and our congratuations to Evelyn."
The South Downs Raptor Club attracted huge crowds at South Downs Nurseries over the weekend 17th/18th March during their joint charity fund raising visit, collecting for the Martlets Hospice on Saturday, and the Ken Olge Sarcoma Trust on Sunday.
