There's a new wave of digital art breaking
on Brighton beach thanks to Nikki Attree.
Images like "Untapped" show a unique perspective
of surfing, with the surfer riding a wave out of tap that
rises mysteriously out of the sea.
These images are largely inspired by Shoreham beach in Sussex
(a few miles west of Brighton) where Nikki lives, and the
people who play in and around it - surfers, kitesurfers, windsurfers,
fishermen and daytrippers.
Using photoshop software she combines and manipulates the
elements to create an alternative beach of the imagination
- composite images that the artist describes as a "synthesis
of photography, graphic design and painting".
Nikki’s passion is windsurfing in waves - wavesailing
is surfing with a sail.
Windsurfing has been a big part of her life for 17 years.
Like surfing it's more than a sport and she eventually moved
to the coast. Now when the wind’s blowing, Nikki takes
a break from the computer and windsurfs from her home at Shoreham
beach.
Nikki Attree graduated with a degree in photography from
the University of Westminster. She now works as a digital
artist and photographer producing work for album covers, logo
designs, web sites and private commissions for homes and offices.
These surfing inspired images are also available as a range
of postcards and limited edition prints. Nikki has very kindly
donated a copy of "Untapped" to The Surfing Museum
to display in its surf history exhibitions.
