What we do is who we are...

Introducing...Us!

Bovilles are more than the sum of their stock...

If you’re thinking ‘this doesn’t look like the usual e-mail from Bovilles’, then you’d be right.

My name is Marie and I’ve been the Manager of Bovilles in Maidenhead for…oooh…at least four years! When I’m not running around the shop, or chasing around after my daughter, I’m hanging around on the internet. Because of this, Robert, our Managing Director asked me to take a look at our ArtWise e-mail and suggested that rather than the usual round of ‘New!’, ‘Special Offer!’ and similar, we should really use the opportunity to talk to our customers. And he’s 100% right.

We’re realists here. We know that you could choose to buy your art materials from absolutely anywhere, but you choose us and we couldn’t be happier. Obviously, you know all about our special offers (you see them in-store and visit our website, of course!), but we’d also like to tell you a bit more about us and perhaps inspire you to try something new. We have some absolutely fascinating people here and a wealth of knowledge that makes us the first port of call for so many questions.

One of the wonderful things about working at Bovilles is the way we are often able to show off our collective talents in our window displays. Last Christmas, for example, we won the town Christmas Window Competition. In every display we try our best to bring a smile to peoples faces and show that art, in all its forms, is essentially for pleasure.

Our latest window has seen us gripped by Origami Fever!

Driven by Harri and her tireless enthusiasm for learning, we took our inspiration from books (we sell a nice range of origami titles), the internet and the mad amounts of paper we stock - and off we went! Well, I say 'we', but I actually mean 'they'. I discovered quite quickly that I was by far the least talented paper folder at Bovilles!

A few minor hiccups aside ("I just can't get the hang of this!" - an exasperated Lu was tearing her hair out at first, but after a few attempts was practically a one-woman origami conveyor belt!), before long the shop was overrun with cranes, frogs, giraffes, flowers and the occasional cheeky monkey! Some of them had a bit of embellishment with ProMarkers and Craft Planet Wiggly Eyes (like our froggy on the right!), but in the main, they were simply paper.

We're absolutely chuffed at the result. The little frog  and bird are just a tiny example of the wonderful origami menagerie we created - pop in and take a look! To inspire you further, we have some beautiful patterned craft papers (perfect for cardmaking, as well as origami) on sale for just £1 a roll. But hurry - once they're gone, they're gone!

Do you think it's too early to start planning the next window? :-)

Until next time!
