Project TO230: A device to reduce the healing time of venous, pressure induced leg ulcers and associated wounds including surgical and sports injuries. An independently proven therapy, used in conjunction with other treatment regimes, is to provide the wound with a supply oxygen whilst retaining the benefits of conventional (compression dressing) therapy.
Oxygen provides the critical energy source and and catalyst for the repair of injured tissue. There is a need for portable and continuous oxygen therapy in wound healing applications, which is not currently available and wounds cannot heal without oxygen.
It is a concern there are some 2 million EC sufferers. Average treatment time is 15weeks at an annual cost to the EC of some £5billion. Aging populations result in a further 500,000 patients by 2010.
Project TO230, a device to meet these needs is under development with a trial date end 2004. For more information please contact of Ion medicare Ltd.
