PAYE
Stonework & Restoration Ltd were employed by
Carillion to undertake the external façade
refurbishment of No 16.
What
made this contract unique was the on site carving
of ornate stonework which has been built into the
new South Elevation.
The
original façade was a mixture of render and
glazed bricks which was demolished to make way for
the new Portland stone masonry.
The
façade had to match the North Elevation, so
a detailed survey first took place of the enriched
stonework producing drawings which were then used
by the carvers to replicate the original
embellishment.
This
created a lot of interest from all involved with
the contract, as it allowed first hand experience
of one of the oldest trade skills which still plays
a significant part in today's modern world building
industry.
The
elevations were also cleaned using fine nebulous
sprays of water and repaired with natural stone
indents and lime mortars.
