The public launch of p2b.net took place at Fabrica on 10 November 205. Attended by over 70 people it provided a chance to describe how the project has developed, demonstrate the Google technology that powers it and get feedback on what local websites to include.

The launch event also featured Debora Parr, eGovernment Manager for Brighton & Hove City Council and Robert Whiteside, UK Sales manager for Google Search Appliance.
Debora spoke of the long gestation period for the search engine - starting in 2000 with a successful bid to the Government's Invest to Save Budget. She emphasised how partnership is at the core of the search engine - the eight partners have worked together to build a vision for the search engine and to address the technical and logistical issues to create a new kind of collaborative information tool.
Robert congratulated theplacetobe.net on the successful launch of the p2b.net search engine and underlined the similarity in Google's vision for making high quality information universally available. He said he believed the project to be unique - certainly in the UK - and praised it's citizen-centred approach.
