Which instrument should I use?
Detection of VOC’s using Photo Ionisation Detectors (PIDs) has raised some tough questions with certain environmental conditions, i.e. humidity and temperature causing spurious readings. Contamination of the Instrument is also of concern and the on-going maintenance regime is often over looked when deciding which PID is right for the application.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) are abundant and diverse. Ever-present in nature and modern industrial society they can be both harmful and/or toxic. Modern industrial chemicals such as fuels, solvents, coatings, feedstocks, and refrigerants are usually VOC’s.
Detection and reduction of VOC’s is covered under legislation due to the impact on both Health & Environmental issues. The commonly accepted method for detection of VOC’s is using technology called Photo Ionisation Detection (PID). Instruments using PID technology are readily available from a number of manufacturers.
The need to reduce our exposure to dangerous VOC’s is obvious – it affects our health and our environment and reducing the production of VOC’s will benefit today’s and tomorrow’s society.
