YOUNG PEOPLE

What is mediation?
Mediation is a voluntary process that acts as a way of helping teenagers and parents talk to each other and work out any problems between them.

How Does Mediation Help?
It gives both you and your parents a chance to have your say.
The mediator will help to highlight the issues and help you to discuss ways of dealing with them. The mediator is impartial; they are not on anyone's side.

What do we need from you?
To be prepared to talk and to listen and to follow our ground rules: (No shouting, swearing, or interrupting) To want to make things better.

Is Mediation right for everyone?
We do not discriminate against anyone

Mediation and Confidentiality
Everything you say during mediation is confidential. The only exception would be if there are any safety concerns for family members.

Teenagers and parents often experience difficulties with areas such as:
Trouble at school or college
Changes at home
New people joining the family
Tidying up
Not being able to talk to each other
Money
Girl or boy friends or sexuality
Going out and coming in times
Clothes, haircuts
Too many arguments

Essex Mediation also works alongside local council to offer mediation to young people in the Essex area.
